For many people, the focal point during this time of year is geared towards being thankful. Many of us are even good at taking the time necessary to share about all of the things we are thankful for during the “Thanksgiving” season; but how often does this thankfulness last? Typically, this awareness of being thankful lasts throughout the holiday season. However, what if there was an equation that we could apply in our lives to lead us to a continual heart of thanks?
Being thankful is all about perspective. The reason we aren’t thankful has nothing to do with having things to be thankful for; it’s that we aren’t viewing what we have from the right perspective. The good thing about the Thanksgiving season is that it elevates our perspective to see things in a way that causes us to be thankful for them. I believe, however, that there is a way that we can live with this perspective of thanks the entire year because when we have a thankful heart, we live a full life.
Psalm 69:30 gives us a recipe to elevating our perspective to live with a thankful heart.
I will praise God’s name in song
and glorify him with thanksgiving.
When we praise God, it elevates our heart to see our life and everything in it from God’s perspective. When we glorify him with thanksgiving, it helps keep our perspective there. Praise will elevate it; Thanksgiving will keep it there. As we walk through life this season, don’t forget to praise God and continue to thank Him every day so that you will continue to live a life filled with a thankful heart throughout the entire year.
