What is Project Honor?
Simply put Project Honor is “A call to hold out because it’s not worth giving in.”
That is the entire message and vision of Project Honor wrapped up in one sentence. I do understand that statement may not make sense to everyone, also that statement has a lot wrapped into it, so let me return to the original question, what is project honor?
Project Honor started as what I viewed as a future sermon series I would do to challenge people to restore honor in our culture, to honor those who have gone before and to whom it is due. However, the vision for this phrase Project Honor quickly changed. I vividly remember thinking about the struggle I faced with pornography, the way it plagued me, and the other hidden problems that are brought with an addiction to pornography.
So, I began to ask myself the question, what if God wants me to tell the generation below me what I wish I had known about sex and pornography.
I have seen and experienced the backlash that come with porn, premarital sex, and the host of other sexual sins that go on. I knew about other churches who did something like an old school “true love waits” service, but in a new way and I always thought it was cool. But it wasn’t until I was listening to a sermon one day that God said, “I’m going to take your struggle and I’m going to use it to save others from experiencing the same thing.”
“I’m going to take your struggle and I’m going to use it to save others from experiencing the same thing.”
Tori and I began to talk about this and the constant thing we began to notice from our lives growing up is that sex is a topic that is rarely talked about, but when it is it’s just “don’t do this, because you shouldn’t.” So, we said what if we took how we failed and what we didn’t know and turned it into giving people a “why not” rather than a “just don’t, because you shouldn’t.” It’s not that people are uninformed about sex, they’re just misinformed. We want to be the voices that inform them the right way.
So where does the name “Project Honor” come from?
“you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:20
The name comes from this verse, a call for us all to honor God with our bodies, to hold out for honor in a culture that is addicted to giving in.
